Border Standoff Continues in Assam as Bangladesh Refuses to Accept Nine Nationals

A border standoff in Assam's Mankachar sector continues as nine Bangladeshi citizens remain stranded in the no-man's land after Bangladesh reportedly refused to accept them. Talks between the BSF and BGB have failed to resolve the issue so far, while security forces continue intensified efforts to prevent illegal infiltration along the India-Bangladesh border.

A tense standoff continues along the India-Bangladesh border in Assam's Mankachar sector, where nine Bangladeshi citizens remain stranded in the no-man's land between the two countries after Bangladeshi authorities reportedly refused to accept them.

According to sources, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has declined to take back the individuals despite ongoing efforts to resolve the situation. A flag meeting was held between the Border Security Force (BSF) and the BGB, but no breakthrough was achieved. BSF sources said a fresh round of discussions is scheduled to take place today in an attempt to find a solution.

Tensions escalated on Sunday after the nine individuals were found stranded in the no-man's land near the Mankachar border. The situation drew widespread attention after a video circulated on social media showing one of the individuals identifying himself and the others as Bangladeshi citizens who had entered India in search of employment.

In the video, the individual claimed that they possessed documents proving their Bangladeshi nationality and stated that they would not return to India under any circumstances. He said, “We have the documents to prove we are from Bangladesh. Even if we are killed and dumped in a river, we will not go to India.”

The development comes amid intensified border surveillance and enforcement measures. The BSF has recently pushed back several Bangladeshi citizens attempting to cross into Indian territory. Over the past week, Assam Police and the BSF have intercepted and prevented 21 infiltrators from entering the country.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the coordinated efforts of the Assam Police and the BSF in strengthening border security. In a post on X, he stated that 21 infiltrators had been swiftly identified and stopped from entering India, describing the operation as an excellent example of joint action by the security forces.

The Chief Minister also reiterated the need to keep Assam free from illegal infiltration from Bangladesh and emphasized the importance of securing the borders of neighbouring states that share international boundaries.

The continuing deadlock over the nine stranded individuals has underscored the complexities of border management and cross-border migration, while highlighting the growing focus of security agencies on preventing illegal infiltration and maintaining vigilance along the India-Bangladesh frontier.
